导师简介

Dr. Xu is an assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Department of Computer Science, and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. Before joining Duke, Dr. Xu was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in computer science from UCLA and his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from USTC. His research spans the areas of machine learning, optimization, reinforcement learning, and high-dimensional statistics, with a focus on developing and improving large-scale nonconvex optimization algorithms for machine learning applications. Dr. Xu’s work has been published in top-tier machine learning conferences and journals such as ICML, NeurIPS, COLT, ICLR, JMLR, PNAS, etc. He has received multiple awards for his research including the PIMCO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Data Science (2022), the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award from UCLA (2021), Rising Stars in Data Science (2021), and the Presidential Fellowship in Data Science (2016) from the University of Virginia.
